ALEX BARKALOFF | Executive Producer for Digital Media, Lionsgate
As Executive Producer for Digital Media at Lionsgate, Alex Barkaloff is responsible for developing high-impact mobile entertainment, applications, games and communities from the company’s 12,000 film library and hit TV shows as Weeds, Mad Men, Crash and Fear Itself. Additionally, he oversees original digital productions, especially those that can be cross-developed for filmed entertainment and TV. Prior to Lionsgate, Alex created media-based mobile applications for musical artists, graphic novels and dramatic, horror and comedy projects with such companies as UCP Morgen/qPass, Nellymoser, and mobile operators including T-Mobile, Telefonica, Belgacom, Era Poland and handset makers including Nokia. An entrepreneur and venture capitalist, Alex founded GlobalNet Ventures in San Francisco in 1998 and ArtistOne, an online digital music distributor. His enterprise experience ranges from Oracle to PSION (UK) to the Jet Propulsion Laboratory/NASA.
AMBER J. LAWSON | Publisher, BabelGum International
Amber J. Lawson recently jumped into the influential role of Comedy Publisher for Babelgum International where she is driving original production and interactive programming across fixed and mobile. Before joining Babelgum Lawson was Vice President of Programming for maniaTV, and before that was Executive Producer and Head of Comedy. Lawson added her EVP of Branded Entertainment stripe in October of 2008 when she focused her integration expertise across the network and continued to strengthen agency relationships working with many brands including ATT, Wrigley’s, Unilever, Dice, Doritos, XM radio, Samsung, Chili’s and Nikon. Lawson has been a featured speaker at JFL, Digital Hollywood, SXSW, LATV Fest and Always On on interacting and immersive content, branded Entertainment and transmedia strategies. Lawson produced two Comedy Albums for National Lampoon “Songs in the Key of FU” and “If we’re so wrong, Why are you laughing?”. Before joining maniaTV Lawson was SVP of Development at National Lampoon where she EP’d the National Lampoon Lemmings Sketch Comedy Troupe. Lawson also produced the LA sensation Comedy Cocktail with her partner Jay Leggett (The Factory, Without A Paddle) via an output deal with Super Deluxe. Comedy Cocktail has discovered and launched the careers of Askaninja, Frangela and the internet sensation Titanic II: Jack is Back. The first offshoot of Comedy Cocktail is the Summer of Tears pilot filmed for Warner Bros. A Productions President, Lawson has developed shows with Mark Burnett Productions, Spike, VH-1, MTV, ABC, and Touchstone. Creator and Executive Producer of the ABC/ Touchstone Television series ALYX (starring Marla Sokoloff) a co-production with Executive Producer/ partner Madonna. She has also performed at the prestigious Second City and the groundbreaking Improv Olympic with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Ms. Lawson is also a member of the Interactive Peer Group at the Academy of Television Arts & Science.
OREN KATZEFF | Vice President and General Manager, Demand Media Entertainment
Oren is Vice President and General Manager, Demand Media Entertainment: where he oversees the day-to-day operations of Cracked.com and Mania.com. His responsibilities include overseeing the creation of high quality, intelligent text and video content, and identifying, evaluating and structuring content monetization and distribution opportunities. Prior to joining Demand Media, Oren was Senior Director of Business Development for the Yahoo Media Group, where his primary focus was negotiating all business deals for Yahoo News and Yahoo Finance. Within this role, Oren negotiated and managed over fifty key partnerships, including those with The Associated Press, Reuters, ABCNews, FOX, USAToday, The Weather Channel, CNN, Gawker, Huffington Post, and many others. Prior to joining Yahoo, Oren practiced law at a small firm in San Mateo, California, gaining experience in both the litigation and business transactions side of the profession. Although he no longer practices law, it still makes him smile when his grandmother proudly tells her friends that her “grandson is a lawyer”. Oren holds an undergraduate business degree from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley, and a JD from Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco. He has written over ten short screenplays, seven of which were filmed and submitted in film competitions (a few of them were award winning), and sometimes feels the itch to give stand-up comedy one last try.
